kingi reguarly hosts special events.
Find out what’s currently happening.
1 - 30 June
This June, for the third year running, kingi is collaborating with esteemed Champagne-maker Dom Pérignon to celebrate the newly reimagined Tuawhiti Lane’s beautiful new lighting and cosier and more intimate dining atmosphere.
For the next four weeks, kingi will offer a thoughtfully curated signature bites menu that can be enjoyed in their elegant inner-city courtyard alongside a glass of Dom Pérignon.
Pair a glass with a matched snack, including Te Matuku oyster with kiwifruit and habanero, Wapiti venison nigiri with horseradish and ponzu, and a smoked kingfish croquette with bisque mayo. Or, if you’re simply in the mood for a crisp glass of Champagne, order by the glass, alone or with friends.
Thursday 31 July | 6pm | $189pp
Truffle season is coming, and we’re going all in. On Thursday 31 July, we’re celebrating these jewels of the earth with a one-night-only dinner at kingi, starring both black and white truffles. Think four courses (bread included, of course) where truffle takes the lead, including a dessert that proves truffles belong at every stage of a meal.
Joining us for the evening is Jax Lee-May from Kings Truffles, our incredible supplier and resident truffle expert. She’ll be here to talk black and white truffles, share a few secrets, and help you fall even deeper in love with these delicacies.
Kings Truffles is a family-run operation from North Canterbury, known for their BioGro certified organic truffles, truffle butter, and all-around dedication to the good life. Jax grew up in the truffle game and now manages over 4,000 trees, multiple farms, and a team of expert truffle-hunting dogs. She’s as passionate as they come and loves nothing more than sharing her passion with fellow food-lovers.
Seats are limited and truffles wait for no one.
Wednesday 11th and Wednesday 25th June from 5pm
Live DJ sessions at kingi continue through Autumn! DJ Nick Takashima will play a set of soul, funk, house and jazzy beats to enjoy alongside a special drinks list, and kingi plates you know and love.
Come along for a dose of great tunes and book a table ahead of time if you’re in the mood for more than drinks and small bites.
Three-course dinner | Matched wines | $175pp
Tuesday 19 August 5.30pm
A little bit of mystery, a lot of great food. Taste of Tuawhiti is a progressive dinner across three of Auckland’s best restaurants: kingi, Café Hanoi, and Ghost Street, all tucked into Tuawhiti Lane in the Britomart neighbourhood.
Where you start is a surprise. Arrive at The Hotel Britomart Lobby Lounge, enjoy a glass of bubbles, and find out where your first course will be served. From there, you’ll move between restaurants, swapping places with other guests as you experience a curated three-course meal, with each course and wine match served in a different venue.
Expect fresh sustainably sourced seafood at kingi, with dishes like kingfish crudo with grapefruit, caper and bay leaf or pan-seared snapper with tomato crayfish bisque, fregola and fennel. At Café Hanoi, modern Vietnamese flavours take centre stage with dishes like ginger galangal chicken with pickled vegetables and green papaya salad with shrimp. And at Ghost Street, bold Beijing-inspired cooking shines in plates like honey glazed cha shao pork and steamed vegetables with aromatic fried rice.
It’s a journey through some of the city’s top kitchens with wine pairings, good company, and a little spontaneity thrown in.
